I kept hearing about this new BBQ place in town opened by some guys I went to school with and thought I would give it a try. My daughter and I checked the place out today; Players Smoked BBQ next to GBS on Howard Road in Madera.
The menu offers meat combos and sandwiches. There are also full dinners you can take home with you. My daughter ordered the tri-tip sandwich and I ordered the three meat combo (hot link, tri-tip, pulled pork and two sides with garlic bread). Of course they have ribs too but we didn't order those today.
My daughters sandwich was a nice size with an ample amount of meat. My plate was full and heaping. When I was done, I was full. Last week I ordered the same thing at Famous Dave's BBQ in Fresno for about five dollars more and didn't get any where near the amount of meat I got from Players.
How did it taste? It tasted like these guys know what they are doing. Very good food at a very good price. I know I am going back because I took my daughter and not my fiancé. I am in a little hot water over that but when I take her, she'll get over it.
They are open Tuesday to Thursday's 11-8 and open an hour later on weekends. They are closed Sunday and Monday. Also most every day they have been open they have sold out of meat so if you are ordering dinners to go, order early by phone.
While I won't be eating there every day because my doctors keep bothering me about my weight and cholesterol. This will be my monthly treat for great meat that I don't have to cook. Check them out.
