Tyler Avenue Homicide Update

FRESNO - On Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers from the Fresno Police Department were sent to 2232 E. Tyler Avenue regarding a shooting victim.  Officer’s arrived and made contact with the shooting victim later identified as Ernie Gonzalez Jr. 39 years.  Gonzalez was transported to CRMC where he was pronounced deceased.

While at CRMC, a second male victim later identified as Shedrick Brown 42 years arrived suffering from a gunshot wound to his head.  It was learned Brown was with Gonzalez and a second victim of the Tyler shooting.  Brown survived and is recovering from his injury as Gonzalez leaves behind 11 children.

Investigators have learned the two victims were standing in front of 2232 E. Tyler when they were fired upon by a suspect armed with an assault rifle.  This was a violent attack and displays a complete disregard for human life. Many children and innocent citizens were in the area during this shooting and forced to flee for cover.  

The single shooter did not act alone and police do have people of interest in this case and knowledge of possible vehicles involved; however, they are asking for the public’s help with additional calls to confirm information received.  Fresno PD are also seeking information regarding the possible vehicles involved.
