MAGEC Investigation Involving Violent Gang Member Leads to SWAT Standoff

FRESNO -  On Friday, June 17th, at approximately 7 p.m., members from the Multi Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium (MAGEC) attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Blackstone Avenue near Ashlan Avenue. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 36-year-old Eddie Serna, failed to yield, and sped off at a high rate of speed.

The Fresno Police Departments Air Support Unit was requested and gained visual of the vehicle. Serna began driving without any due regard for other motorists as the Fresno Police helicopter maintained visual. Due to Serna’s driving actions, MAGEC officers did not pursue the vehicle; however, received updated information from the Air Support Unit.
As the police helicopter remained overhead, Serna collided with another motorist at Weber Ave. and Olive Ave. and fled the scene on foot. The Air Support Unit did a great job in coordinating the arrival of MAGEC personnel. Serna was observed forcing his way into a detached garage in the 600 block of W. Hedges.

Upon arriving at the scene of the collision, officers located a magazine loaded with .40 caliber Smith and Wesson ammunition on the driver’s side of the vehicle. MAGEC officers immediately contained Serna inside the detached garage and provided numerous announcements for him to exit. It was believed that Serna was possibly armed, and the Fresno Police Department’s SWAT team responded. The SWAT team had just completed another call in Northeast Fresno. The SWAT team safely took Serna into custody.

Serna is a Bulldog gang member with an extensive criminal history with numerous arrests for gun/gang related charges, domestic violence, evading police, and Narcotics. Serna was booked into Fresno County Jail for numerous related charges related to this incident.

Fresno Police are asking anyone with gang related information to please call MAGEC at 559-600-7004.
