Sheldon Mensch: Former Action Committee Director & Police Volunteer Dies at 72

Sheldon Mensch, age 72, went on his last adventure on April 19, 2011 in Fresno, California. He was born April 24, 1938 in Jessup, Maryland to Albert and Miriam Mensch. He had seven sisters and four brothers. Sheldon attended Arundel Junior Senior High in Maryland and graduated from Golden State University, San Francisco with his Bachelors Degree.

While in the Air Force in England he met Joyce Irene Newby who he married on November 30, 1957 in Walsoken, England. They then moved to Topeka, Kansas and then Edwards Air Force Base where he retired in 1975 after twenty years of service.

 He retired in Madera, California where he made his home. Sheldon served the Madera County Action Committee as the Executive Director and retired in 1990 after serving 14 years. He then worked as the nutrition driver for the Home Bound Program for the City of Madera from 1996 to 2000.

He also volunteered for the City of Madera Police Department from 2000 to current. He was recognized for his dedication to the citizens of the City of Madera and the Police Department. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and later in life he enjoyed his computer.
Sheldon is survived by his wife Joyce I. Mensch of Madera, California; children, Sheldon M. Mensch, David J. Mensch, Leona M. Montalvo and Michelle Mensch; grandchildren, Andrew, Amber, Ashley, Cora, Maegan, Zack, Kirstie and Joshua; two sisters and two brothers and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 2, 2011 at 10:30 at Arbor Vitae Cemetery, Madera, CA
