Marcella Marie Oberti (107)

Marcella Oberti (107) passed away peacefully surrounded by her devoted family on September 22, 2017. Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Oberti in 1984. Marcella was born in San Francisco, California on December 6, 1909. At the age of five years old, Marcella participated in the 1913 Pan-Pacific Exposition.

As a young girl, she attended Montessori School in San Francisco. Upon graduating from High School, she attended the University of California in Berkeley where she majored in English Literature and Languages. She graduated from Berkeley in 1932 and went to work at the Bank of Italy in the Legal Department.

In 1938, Marcella married Frank Oberti and they moved to Madera. It was a big transition for her adjusting to rural country life from city life. Her husband, Frank Oberti and his two brothers were busy developing the Oberti Olive Company in Madera which became Madera’s largest industry at that time.

Marcella was very active in the community. She was a member of Theta Tau Theta Sorority, and the Madera Golf and Country Club. She also was a member of a local square dancing club. Marcella was a pillar of strength to her family because of her great gift of common sense, her intelligence and her great sense of humor.

Marcella always contributed her longevity to her dedication to walking all of her life. Marcella also enjoyed discussing family business at the office, then rushing home for a bridge game with her friends and also to watch her favorite soap operas.

Marcella is survived by her son, Philip Oberti and wife Klina, her daughter, Carla Alessini and husband, Bill. Marcella is also survived by five grandchildren, Alison, Laurel and Greg Oberti. She also leaves behind Bryan Alessini and his wife, Ashley and sister, Stephanie Alessini. Marcella has six great grandchildren, Lauren and Harrison Alessini and Mason and Thomas Orradre and Anthony and Nicholas Aurignac.

The Oberti Family expresses a special thanks to Marcella’s many caregivers who took wonderful care of her over the last years of her life.

Marcella requested a private family service which was held.

Remembrances may be made to the Madera Historical Society, P.O. Box 150, Madera, California 93639 or to the donor’s favorite charity.
