Bulldog Baseball Stumbles to Harvard

FRESNO  -   The Bulldogs returned home on Tuesday evening falling 8-2 to Harvard at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium. Fresno State (7-10) was held to six hits in its first-ever contest against Harvard (7-5).Two days after hitting his first career home run, Tommy Hopfe had a two-hit performance and drove in one of the 'Dogs two runs on the night.

Zach Morgan extended his hitting streak to 11 games smacking one of the Bulldogs' two doubles and scored a run while Ivan Luna added a double and scored the 'Dogs other run. On the mound, Will Springer made his first start of the season lasting three innings before giving way to Alex Kendrick, followed by three perfect innings from Robbie Peters and one inning apiece from Kyle Pruhsmeier and Matt Ottino.

How It Happened
Jumping out a 7-0 lead, the Crimson put up three runs in the first, tacked on three more in the third and one more in the fourth before the Bulldogs were able to score their lone two runs of the contest in the bottom of the fourth.

Back-to-back doubles from Morgan and Luna and a walk to Josh Lauck loaded the bases with no outs and Hopfe took advantage with an RBI single to left followed by a sacrifice fly from Vinny Bologna. Looking to continue to cut into the Crimson's lead, a double play got Harvard out the inning as the 'Dogs were held to one hit the rest of the night.

Up next
The Bulldogs stay home this weekend to host Nevada (8-5, 4-1 MW) starting Friday.
