MADERA - The Madera District Fair closed out their 2017 season last night. It was a season that brought free concerts on the main stage from the likes of Gary Allan, Kool and the Gang and Eddie Money. Fresh pies, bar-be-qued ribs, cup cakes and salsa was judged in the Woman's World building. And reptiles took over the skating rink and many folks got to hold their first snake or alligator.
Sunday a dozen folks competed in a watermelon eating contest for a blue ribbon just like fair visitors did the day before with the pie eating contest. Thousands came through the gates Sunday to take advantage of the Sunday discounts on the Midway with buy one get one wrist bands for the rides. In the carnival a lot of stuff animals found new homes in Madera as guest tried their luck with darts, ping pong balls and even rifles.
Traditional Hispanic dance took place on the patio stage.
Now the fair breaks down as the midway and carnival head down the freeway to Tulare County that opens their fair this week. If you have contest entries in Woman's World they can be picked up in the next couple days and premium checks should also be ready.
The Madera Fair comes back next year on September 13th.
