Madera Fair Kicks It Off With Gary Allan & Robots

MADERA - The Madera District Fair kicked off it's four day run Thursday with robots and country music. The kids from the Madera High School Robotics Team took over Lumber Town with their robots and VR Games. Then Gary Allan brought his brand of country music to the main stage to rock the crowds.

This year the concerts are free and you can get right up front, close to the stars. Last night folks rented lawn chairs to hang out on the grass or stand close to the stage for the free Gary Allan show. Tonight Kool and the Gang take the stage for a little funky Rhythm and Blues. There are a limited amount of lawn chairs that rent for Five Dollars a night.


2016 Pomegranate Festival Finds New Home

MADERA - Over 10,000 people made their way to the Madera Fair Grounds Saturday for the annual Madera Pomegranate Festival. The FREE festival which has been held at the Madera Airport for the last few years moved to the fairgrounds to meet the need for more space as the event has grown bigger and better every year.

This years event had twice as many booth spaces and twice as many food vendors as in years past. The worry of food vendors being able to compete and make enough money were soon dismissed after the gates were open. Debi Bray of the Madera Chamber of Commerce, sponsor of the event, says that this year vendors set records on sales with nearly all selling out of the products by the end of the day.

Chowchillian Madison Gies (16) Crowned 2012 Miss Madera County

CHOWCHILLA - Wednesday night the Chowchilla Fair kicked off it's 2012 season with the crowning of a new Miss Madera County. Madison Gies (16) was named 2012 Miss Madera County. Gies is the daughter of John and Kathy Gies and is a junior at Chowchilla Union High School where she is a cheerleader.

Ashley Pettit, who's reign ends Saturday as the 2011 Spring Festival Queen was named the first runner up. Pettit is the daughter of Kevin and Renee Pettit and is a senior at Chowchilla Union High School.

2012 Old Timer's Day Parade

MADERA - The 81st annual Old Timers Day Parade stepped off Saturday morning in downtown Madera. The event, sponsored by the original Madera Kiwanis Club, has taken place in Madera since 1931 (except for a few years for a World War). This years parade had 57 entries, which included bands from Madera and Chowchilla schools and of course politicians.

This year's Grand Marshal was Tom Schoettler who, along with his wife, were driven in the parade by their son Kenny. Mr. Schoettler is the owner of Schoettler Tire and has been a long time support of youth sports and Madera High School. The King and Queen for this years parade was Mr. Bill Wood and Mrs. Lorraine Ocheltree.

CHOWCHILLA – The 55th annual Chowchilla Western Stampede is underway. Wednesday morning the clouds parted and the rain stopped while forty of so cowboys drove a hundred head of cattle straight down Robertson Boulevard in Chowchilla.

While the crowds of the past didn’t line the streets because of the rain storm that dropped a ton of water on the county creating rivers at the fairgrounds where the rest of the week’s festivities will be held.
