MADERA - Saturday the boys and girls of the local FFA's and 4H units sold their animals. Youth AG supporters from all over Madera County descended on the Livestock Arenas after eating a Tri-Tip lunch provided by the Madera Breakfast Club. Animals from rabbits to steers sold to help fun the AG students projects.
The gates opened earlier on Saturday and the midway and exhibit halls soon filled with people. Over in the Woman's World the Rib contest took place. With over a dozen entries, the judges were forced to endure the eating of ribs for an hour or so. In the same building quilters were a quilting and painters were a painting. If you haven't been to Woman's World at the fair in a few years you are in for a treat.
On the main stage 80's rocker Bret Michaels took the stage and rocked out to his own hits as well as those from his previous band, Poison. While most acts are introduced by someone cool, like Gnarley Charley for KISS Country, Michaels was introduced by someone's dad from KMJ. During the show Michaels introduced a couple Veteran's and bought them a beer while he sang them a song. After the show the hat the rocker was wearing during the show as well as his shirt was auctioned off to benefit diabetes and Veterans organiztions in the valley.
Sunday is the last day of the fair and your last chance for a corn dog or 20/30 Tri-Tip. I will be out in front of the office from 5:00pm to 5:30pm giving away tickets to anyone that asks. Enjoy the fair on Big Valley News Sunday only.
