MADERA - Madera District Fair coined “It’s Your Fair!” opens, Thursday, September 8th for its four day run ending on Sunday, September 11th. Celebrating the Community is a large emphasis for the 2016 season, including an opening night Community Business Fair at the Fair, an expanded Safety Zone created for local law enforcement and government agencies open all four days, special community exhibit contests as well as “Community Day” at the gate on Thursday, September 8th.
“Community Day” bargains include free entry for Active military, veterans and current first responders, seniors 62 and over, and kids 12 and under. In partnership with Madera County Food Bank, “Community Day” will include a can food drive, guests can receive $2 off a single admission for every 2 cans brought to the gate on Thursday, September 8th.
Brand new for 2016, TECH TOWN located in Lumbertown. Madera Fair has partnered with the nationally known, Madera High School, MHS Robotics Team. The team will host an extensive display showcasing their newest robot for 2016 as well as a few veterans along with VEX-IQ, the lego technology program to inspire young and old with hands-on engineering and technological activity.
In addition, as a fundraising tool, MHS Robotics will bring the newest in VR, virtual reality, systems for guests to fully immerse themselves in game play. The HTC-VR system will be mirrored on two 60” screens for guests in que and bystanders to watch each player’s activity. Joining the TECH team, local developer Cameron Cernuda will display his portable 3D printer. Guests can scroll through templates and choose from a selection of items to print and take home.
Additionally, no “tech” zone would be complete without a recharge station, guests can grab a refreshing drink and sit back and recharge devices and themselves in the newly pioneered TECH TOWN at LUMBERTOWN.
Guests will find Madera Fairgrounds brighter than ever with added lighting and increased family dining areas. Madera Fair’s traditional amphitheater seating has been added to, in order to promote the community atmosphere including all new picnic tables, umbrellas and market lighting. Madera Fair staff is confident guests will love the fresh family friendly environment.
Exhibits can be found in many locations throughout the fairgrounds. The Exhibit Hall is to the brim with nearly 5,000 entries from classroom projects to quilts, baked goods and preserves, to fine arts. Special contests hold an “It’s Your Fair” class, which allows exhibitors to best display their memories and affection for Madera Fair. Live demonstrations are scheduled throughout the four days of the fair within the Exhibit Hall. The Commerce Building will showcase Floriculture; plants, arrangements, floral and special contests. Gardens can be found in the refreshed barns on Madera Fairgrounds.
The rich role of livestock is packed into a weeks worth and more of activity. Small animals, including; rabbit and poultry show, companion bird show, dog obedience and pygmy goat show will begin Saturday, September 3rd. Multiple 4H, FFA and independent groups will enter the arena with goats, beef and dairy cattle, swine and sheep for breeding, market and showmanship contests filling the barns Wednesday, September 7th and Thursday, September 8th with a flurry of activity.
Friday, September 9th will host Pee-Wee Showmanship and Round Robin Showmanship. A detailed schedule is available in the Exhibitors Handbook online at maderafair.com. Livestock activity culminates Saturday, September 10th at 12 noon when the Junior Livestock Auction Kicks-Off. All new and seasoned buyers are welcome to come and support the future of Livestock through a group of outstanding young people.
Family-friendly entertainment will fill Madera Fairgrounds. The Pollywood Bird Show will amaze guests with feathery feats including a Turkey Stampede. The Magic of Frank Thurston can be found on stage and strolling the grounds. Something Ridiculous is as you can imagine, ridiculous in juggling, stunts and antics, they will have you both laughing and in awe! Albert the Balloonist, the friendliest balloonist you’ll ever find. Kellie Karl, hypnotist will mesmerize, Rocket’s K9 Comets will be Frisbee fetching for your enjoyment and Jeremy the juggler will juggle to your heart’s content.
Visiting for the first time, Circus Imagination, a wonderful family experience that will “commission” your kids for the circus. This is a fantastic interactive show. Wild Science will fill the commerce building with hands-on activity for all ages to experience. With so much entertainment, guests will surely be spending multiple nights at the Fair!
There is still time to purchase tickets for the 2016 Madera Fair, Table Mountain Concert Series presented by Tecate Light. Madera Fair is thrilled to kick-off opening night with 38 SPECIAL, who after more than three decades together, continue to bring their signature Southern Rock to over 100 cities a year. At each and every show, thousands of audience members are amazed by the explosive power of the band's performance, Madera Fair guests are no exception, and guests will be “Rockin’ into the Night” on Thursday, September 8th at 7:30pm. Reserved seat tickets for 38 Special are $20.
Friday, September 9th at 8pm, Montgomery Gentry, who has secured a place in musical history with a unique blend of country, southern rock and Everly Brothers--‐like harmonies combined with relatable lyrics will light up the night. Montgomery Gentry’s latest album release, Folks Like Us, with infectious lyrics and an anthem feel, will have fans partying on tailgates well into the future and equally entertained this year at the Madera Fair. Reserved seat tickets for Montgomery Gentry are $25.
Bret Michaels, the multi-platinum global superstar who has turned his passion for music into a multi-faceted brand. Rising to fame as the frontman of Poison, one of rock’s most iconic and enduring bands, he helped define the rock-n-roll scene on the Sunset Strip. Equally as successful, Bret’s solo career has charted its own course with multiple solo albums. Guests can expect to ROCK to a legendary collection of career spanning songs including new tracks like: "Girls on Bars," co-written by hit songwriter Luke Laird, and "Get Undone." Having already made numerous performances and appearances in 2016, Madera Fair is thrilled to be a hot stop with “The Party Starts Now Tour”, Saturday, September 9th at 8pm. Reserved seat tickets are $25. Fair admission is not included in any concert ticket purchase.
Closing out the series, Sunday, September 11th at 7:30pm is Calibre 50. Calibre 50 from Mazatlan, Sinaloa is a charting and award-winning quartet . Their provocative name (after an armor piercing bullet) was chosen as a symbol for their music, which they claim penetrates geographical regions from Mexico, through Latin America and the United States. Reserved seats for Calibre 50 are $20.
Free festival seating is available with fair admission for each concert. Tickets can be purchased at the Madera Fair Office.
Pre-Sale admission is available at the Madera Fair Office, 1850 W. Cleveland Avenue and at Rancho San Miguel, 1410 E. Yosemite Avenue for $6, a $2 savings from the fair time price of $8. Additionally, pre-sale carnival coupons can be purchased for $20 in the same locations, a $10 off savings from the fair time price of $30. Pre-sale bargains are available through September 7th. Sunday, September 11th, “Rancho San Miguel Day” has free admission for kids 12 and under free between 3-5pm and buy one, get one free on carnival wristbands from 3-5pm as well.
