Super Heros Galore at Madera South Homecoming - Sanger Over South 41-14

MADERA - The super heroes from the DC Comics and the Marvel world descended on Madera South Friday for a parade and a football game. Before it was all over a new king and queen sat on their thrones with Superman and Wonder Woman looking on.

Homecoming 2014 for Madera South took on a comic book super hero theme with villains and heroes marching down Stadium Road for the kids of the Purple track. This year's homecoming parade passed in from of Madison and Alpha Schools with students from the rest of Madera South's feeder elementary schools bused in to watch the fun. Even the Desmond Middle School football team had a float in the parade.

Former Madera Unified Chief Academic Officer Robert Chavez served as this year's grand marshal. Chavez, who is now a principal in a Northern California school, has dedicated his life to education for over 20 years. He first served MUSD as the principal at Martin Luther King Middle School before being promoted to chief academic officer. Chavez kicked off the parade and assisted in the coin toss before the game with his wife and two daughters in attendance.

During the half time show, Wonder Woman (aka Mrs. Larrivee) helped save Superman (aka Mr. Christiansen) from the kryptonite left on the field by a Sanger Apache by using Triple-S (Stallion School Spirit). After our super heroes were out of danger they helped with the crowning of a new king and queen for homecoming.

This year Wesley Sorenson was named King. Sorenson plans to attend UC San Diego and study engineering and business. This year's queen is Yessenia Maciel. Maciel is planning to major in liberal arts at Fresno State in hopes of becoming a teacher.

On the football field not even Superman or the many Batmans in Friday afternoon's parade could save the struggling varsity football team. The Sanger Apaches scored on the Stallions five times in the first half alone. Once the Sanger first string was pulled out in the forth quarter, the Stallions were able to punch it through to the end-zone twice to bring the final score to 41-14.

The Stallions are now 1 and 5 on the season and next face the Bullard Knights, who the Madera Coyotes were able to squeak by Friday night at McLane Stadium in Fresno 32-31.
