MADERA - Sober Graduation is both a title and an objective. This program was established by the Department in 1985 and has been recognized internationally as an effective anti-DUI program targeting high school seniors and raising their awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving.
This year the seniors of Madera South High School were locked down in the schools gyms and offered food, dancing, games and prizes. Prizes included televisions, computers, stereos and even a refurbished Saturn automobile from GT Auto Sales.
While the seniors could leave at any time, as long as they stayed they were eligible to win any of the hundreds of prizes donated by local businesses. At the end of the night Stallion senior Taylor Orlando, who hadn't even gotten his drivers license yet, won the car. Because he wasn't licensed or insured he would have to wait until Monday to get his car.
If you would like to donate to next years sober graduation, please contact the school's administration.
