Bret Michaels Rocks the Fair After Livestock Auction

MADERA - Saturday the boys and girls of the local FFA's and 4H units sold their animals. Youth AG supporters from all over Madera County descended on the Livestock Arenas after eating a Tri-Tip lunch provided by the Madera Breakfast Club. Animals from rabbits to steers sold to help fun the AG students projects.

The gates opened earlier on Saturday and the midway and exhibit halls soon filled with people. Over in the Woman's World the Rib contest took place. With over a dozen entries, the judges were forced to endure the eating of ribs for an hour or so. In the same building quilters were a quilting and painters were a painting. If you haven't been to Woman's World at the fair in a few years you are in for a treat.

Kids & Rockin Country Take Over the Fair

MADERA - It was Madera Unified School District's Kids Day at the Madera Fair. Third graders from all of MUSD's schools were bused over to the fair grounds for a tour of the fair and special shows from the ground acts. The folks from the Chowchilla Stamped were on hand to show kids how to barrel race or rope a steer.

When you head out to the fair this weekend check out the Woman's World Building to see art pieces from each of the schools. Check out the Instagram Contest on the TV screens in the building as well as several photography contests.

Madera Fair Battles Bad Air-Days But Still Draws Record Crowds

MADERA - Even record heat and smoky air could not keep the crowds away from the 2015 Madera District Fair. On Thursday over 4000 people passed through the gates even with temperatures reaching 105 degrees. Many of those guests enjoyed the Marshall Tucker Band on the main stage. Others took in all the free entertainment at the patio stage, the old grandstand stage or were wowed but the new LED lighting decorating all the carnival rides on the Midway of Fun.

The one disappoint was that for the first time ever, the Madera Unified Kids Day at the Fair was cancelled. The annual field trip for all the third graders from the district has in the past, given a chance for kids to learn about agriculture and other educational aspects of the fair. Unfortunately, this year the sky turned a smoky brown and ash from local fires fell all over the valley making it unsafe for the kids to be outside.  Hopefully our weather will cooperate more fully next year and Kids Day can be returned.

Madera Fair Opens With A Bang From .38 Special

MADERA -  The 125th edition of the Madera District Fair opened its gates Thursday night with a bang from 80's rockers .38 Special. The wild eyed southern boys helped bring in record crowds for a Thursday night and played all of their hits for nearly an hour and a half.

Walking around the fair, guests might have noticed several changes including the addition of over 40 new picnic tables, a kids zone near the old grandstand and Tech Town at Lumber Town. The Madera High School Robotics Team has taken over Lumber Town with digital printers, virtual reality games, robots and a plethora of technology. If your phone is dead, there is even charging stations.

MADERA - The 2014 season of the Madera District Fair came to an end Sunday evening. The last day of the fair featured an early-bird special on wristbands for carnival rides and thousands of Maderan's took advantage of the savings.

The animals from Saturday's livestock sale were moved out for processing and the FFA and 4H kids finally got to go home after a week of working with their animals.
