During the jury trial, a number of witnesses testified that the murder occurred around midnight of July 29, 2008 in front of a home on Davis Street in Madera. Amezcua and Co-defendant Eucario Avalos Ruiz, 28, of Madera, were arrested several days later by the Madera Police Department. A previous rival gang shooting was the motivation for the shooting. A separate jury empaneled to hear the case against Ruiz was unable to reach a verdict on his murder charge. However, it did convict him of participation in a criminal street gang. Ruiz’s sentencing on the gang charge and a trial setting on the pending murder charge is set for June 13th, 2012 in the Madera Superior Court.
