MADERA - No one brought more joy to Nora Salazar's family than their beloved mother. Nora had an independent spirit that qualified her as "a woman ahead of her time". She was a mother insisted on working after her children were born. Instead of being greeted with cookies and milk after school, she greeted her kids with a list of chores and directions for dinner, hence she prepared her daughters for life. She was a mother was spontaneous and her fmaily recalls many weekends when she simply said "grab your suits and one friend, we're heading for the beach!"

She traveled extensively with her husband Raul and together they created many memories golfing, shopping and visiting famous sites. During her lifetime, she was the foundation and backbone of her family, remembering birthdays and special occasions by sending cards with personal messages. Because she loved Madera, she was very supportive of local businesses and encouraged us to shop, eat and get involved. Examples of her involvement include being our room mother for all the years we attended John Adams and holding officer positions with the PTA.

She was a Camp Fire leader and her family recalls summers at Camp Adahi where they became "little women of the woods". She actively showed her non-traditional values when she advocated for Bobby Sox to come to Madera. Every summer, she also hitched a horse trailer to her car so her family could ride with "Pop's Riding Club". They rode in local parades, marched with "Valley Twirlettes", and even showed our Mexican American pride by riding as Mexican Cowgirls!

After her first career as a dental assistant, she became a travel consultant and then decided to start a business called Nora and Associates. She found a niche working with Spanish speaking clients helping them to navigate through the home purchasing process. She was actively involved with Latinas Unidas, Young Ladies Institute, and was honored with a selection to Marjorie Mason Top Ten Professional Women in 2002, and KSEE 24 Women of Influence in 2004. For over 25 years, Mother also loved her work with the Madera Christmas Basket Program involving countless student volunteers to help with the preparation and sign-ups.

Nora was born in Loving, New Mexico to Vivian and Luisa Franco. Our mother is survived by her husband Raul and daughters, Jody Salazar Floyd and husband Don, Rosanne Bonilla and husband Danny along with grandchildren Sara and Daniel, Julie Salazar and her husband Juan Garcia along with grandchildren Sofia, Elvira and Manuel. Mother also leaves behind her sisters, Dora and her husband Bob, Christina, Ruby and her husband Edward, Eva and her husband Armando, brothers Matilde and his wife Vera and Victor and his wife Josie along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with Recitation of the Rosary beginning at 7:00 P.M. at Jay Chapel in Madera. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera where services will conclude. Private family interment will be at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.

In lieu of flowers the family asks you consider donating to the Madera Christmas Basket Program or the Latinas Unidas Scholarship Fund to 821 Yosemite Avenue, Madera, CA 93637 c/o Nora and Associates Real Estate.
