EASTMAN LAKE - Water temperature at Eastman Lake has been hovering in the mid to high-70s. The bass bite has been good early in the day and later in the evening, but pretty slow between 9am and 5pm. Bass are biting 20’-30’ down on plastic and jigs and long as they are green. Most bass this weekend were 1 or 2 pounds, with a few females up to 5 pounds. Bluegill are biting in shallow flats around brush near shore on mini-jigs, gulp minnows, and red worms. Anglers were catching their limit on trout using downriggers trolling about 100 yards offshore from the Codorniz Ramp. A very hearty thank you this week to Kenny Allen of Monterey, whose reporting to me is always most helpful.Water releases from Eastman Lake resumed a few weeks ago, and the lake level has begun to drop about 1.5 to 2 feet per week. Please be aware that unmarked hazards, including submerged rocks and trees, are present throughout Eastman Lake. Don’t hesitate to tell a ranger or call the park office if you see a hazard that needs a new buoy. The Lakeview Trail is now open to all use between the Codorniz Recreation Area and Raymond Bridge. The area of the lake extending upstream from the ‘Keep Out’ buoy line is closed to fishing and boats. Feel free to call the park headquarters at (559) 689-3255 with your questions; business hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-4:30 pm. Life jackets save lives: Just wear it! Lake Data Elevation: 561.73 Storage: 109,072 Inflow: 5 cfs Outflow: 158 cfs Seasonal Rain Total: 11.38
