Ruth Lyon (86)

Ruth Lyon (86) passed away on November 7, 2015 at Cedar Creek Retirement Community in Madera, Ca, at the age of 86 after a lengthy illness. Ruth was born on April 15, 1929 to Joe and Peggy Mayhew in Alberta, Canada.Ruth was raised in Madera and married Roy Ben Lyon in Glascow Kentucky. Roy was stationed at Fort Knox Kentucky and served with the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II.

Ruth's life was devoted to raising her children and grandchildren. Ruth also served on the grand jury and was a member of the Women's Improvement Club for many years where she served as President. She also was a member of the Madera Historical Society.

In addition for her love to her family, she also loved to sneak away to the casinos to try her luck. An attractive lady with a charming personality, people in the community would often remark "what a lovely lady and such a nice lady" to her family. A fitting person to be the wife of a Mayor.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, former Madera mayor Roy Ben Lyon, by her son David Lyon by her daughter Debbie Lyon, and by a sister Kathryn Attard.

She is survived by her daughter Klina Oberti and her husband Philip Oberti, their children Alison Oberti, Laurel Orradre, and Greg Oberti, by her step-son Roger Lyon, his wife Sue and their two children Roger Lyon and Cheryl Gonzales and her husband Robert, stepdaughter Joann Hafting and her 2 daughters Charline and Melinda. Ruth is the grandmother of Ashli Bizieff and her companion Craig Balfour, Aaron Lyon and Grant Atkinson. She is the great grandmother of 14, and the sister of Don Mayhew of Costa Mesa, Ca. Many nieces and nephews and a favorite niece Peggy Roberts.

Ruth's family would like to express their appreciation to Cedar Creek , Optimal Hospice and their staff for the wonderful care she received during this difficult and last few months of her life.

Visitation will be on Thursday, November 12, 2015 from 2 to 8 PM at Jay Chapel. Funeral Service will be on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 2 PM at Jay Chapel. Private interment will follow at Arbor Vitae Cemetery.
