Hernandez Sentenced to Three Years Probation For Fighting Birds Print E-mail

MADERA –  Madera County District Attorney, David A. Linn, announced today that Jovani Joshua Hernandez, age 29, of Madera was sentenced on April 14, 2017, to serve three years on probation for keeping and training fighting birds.

Hernandez was convicted of violating Penal Code section 597j(a) (keeping and training fighting birds). He was also ordered to comply with various other conditions of probation including performing 480 hours community service and has been ordered to pay $10,850.00 restitution to the Madera County Department of Animal Services.

SELMA - Around 1:45 pm on Thursday, an ag worker discovered a man lying in a vineyard with visible injuries.  He was located in the area of Mountain View Ave. and Bethel Ave. in Selma.  Cal Fire firefighters were first to arrive to this emergency call and they determined the man was deceased. 

Dispatchers with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office received the information and had deputies respond to the area to secure it as a crime scene. Homicide detectives and members of the Crime Scene Unit also responded to collect evidence and speak with the person who discovered the body.

MADERA - Tractor Supply Company in Madera at 1565 Country Club Dr will host pet and livestock adoptions on Saturday, June 17. During the event, which is held in celebration of pet and livestock owners, families will have the opportunity to visit with adoptable animals, and are also invited to interact with adoption volunteers to learn more about the joys and responsibilities associated with owning anything from cats and dogs to rabbits, goats, pigs, horses and more.

Purina Days is an annual in-store event from June 14-18 that highlights pets and livestock, as well as the tools needed to properly care for them. Madera Tractor Supply team members with experience caring for a wide variety of animals will be on-site to lend expert advice to customers.

PARLIER - Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested David Garza (44) of Sanger.  He has been booked into the Fresno County Jail on a felony charge of evading a peace officer.  This carries a bail amount of $90,000.  He is also being held on two no bail felony warrants, which are for possession of stolen property and possession of drugs in jail.  Garza is currently under Post-Release Community Supervision, which is part of AB109.

Shortly before 8:30 pm on June 4th, a Fresno County Sheriff’s deputy responded to Bethel and American Aveunes in Del Rey to check on a disturbance between a man and woman.  The deputy could not find a woman, but did locate the man, David Garza.  As the deputy approached Garza, he got into a pickup truck (later determined to be stolen) and drove away.

FRESNO -  On May 30, 2017, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer called for a Gang Operation due to the increased violence and shootings. On June 7, 2017, at 10:20 p.m., Southeast Officers Baiza and Vue were conducting proactive enforcement in the area of Belmont and First. They detained two subjects.

Jose Sanchez 43 of Fresno and a validated Bulldog Gang Member was found to be in possession of a semi-automatic handgun tucked in his waist. This weapon was loaded and ready. Sanchez admitted to possessing the weapon due to the increase in violence and for his personal protection against rival gang members.
