FRESNO – The Fresno Tacos (nee, Grizzlies) have had enough. Fed up (pun intended) after months of back and forth on Twitter, the organization announced at a press conference the morning of (Taco) Tuesday, March 21 that they’re making the “Bacon vs. Tacos” competition official with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, and their bizarre bacon fetish. No longer will the Taco Capital of The World be disrespected without consequence.

The two organizations have made waves on the promotional front the last several seasons, especially as it concerns food that makes each region unique. While it was the “Fresno Tacos” taking home the Golden Bobblehead for Minor League Baseball’s top promotion in 2015, the “Lehigh Valley Cheesesteaks” followed suit, winning the award in 2016. So it’s high time things
are settled to see who is really number one (the Tacos).

FRESNO - On the evening of Monday, Feb. 20, Fresno State baseball will conclude a four-game series against the Oregon Ducks by honoring Fresno's unique role in Japanese-American baseball history with a "Night to Remember."

Head coach Mike Batesole's Bulldogs will sport special throwback jerseys, replicas of the uniforms worn by the legendary Fresno Athletic Club. Founded in 1920 by Kenichi Zenimura, the Fresno Athletic Club was considered by many to be the premier Japanese-American team in the country. In addition to multiple journeys to Japan to compete against that nation's best, the squad also brought big baseball names to Fresno for exhibitions. Most famously, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, fresh off the Yankees' World Series victory in 1927, came to the San Joaquin Valley to take on Zenimura's all-stars.

BERKELEY – Cal head coach Justin Wilcox announced Monday that Tim DeRuyter has agreed to become the Golden Bears' defensive coordinator. DeRuyter becomes the second member of Cal's staff with previous head coaching experience along with offensive coordinator Beau Baldwin. DeRuyter was the head coach at Fresno State for the last four-plus campaigns and has been a collegiate coach for 27 seasons including 16 as a defensive coordinator or co-defensive coordinator.

"Tim DeRuyter is a proven and experienced defensive coordinator with an excellent track record of success in fielding some of the nation's best defenses especially in recent years," Wilcox said. "He has great expertise and knowledge in running a defense, and it's also a tremendous plus that he understands what it's like to be a head coach after his recent tenure at Fresno State. It puts us in a great position as a coaching staff that both Tim and our offensive coordinator Beau Baldwin have recently been head coaches. I'm looking forward to collaborating with each of them and benefitting from their experience."
