MADERA – At the May 1, 2012 Board of Supervisors meeting, Tribal Vice Chair Nancy Ayala and Tribal Secretary Jennifer Stanley announced the sixth year of funding one million dollars in grants to Madera County non-profit organizations and communities.
This year, the Picayune Rancheria Community grants will provide assistance to organizations including the Madera County Food Bank, the Holy Family Table Soup Kitchen, the Chowchilla Fire Department, Boys and Girls Club of Oakhurst, and SLS Foundation which provides tutoring for low income students.

SACRAMENTO – When it comes to traffic safety, some actions bear repeating. May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reminds all motorists to safely share the road and look twice for motorcyclists.
California is home to more than one million licensed motorcycle riders and an environment that lends itself to near perfect riding conditions year round. For this reason, it is important that every motorist remain vigilant while traveling on the state’s roadways.

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis today announced the arrest of an individual who ran a sophisticated scheme at San Diego area Lowe's and Home Depot stores in which he replaced the bar codes on expensive merchandise with bar codes that scanned at lower prices.
Steve Allen Koski, 42, of San Diego, was arraigned yesterday in San Diego Superior Court on 11 felony counts, including grand theft and 10 counts of burglary. His bail has been set at $250,000. He is being held in San Diego County Jail.

VISALIA - Early last Wednesday evening around 7:30 PM, residents in the 1100 hundred block of East Houston noticed smoke and flames coming from the rear area of an auto repair shop. The Visalia Fire Department responded a first alarm assignment consisting of a Battalion Chief, three Engines and one Ladder Truck along with 14 personnel to 1138 E Houston, MC Tire Shop.
The first unit on scene reported smoke and flames from inside the shop to the rear of the building. Fire crews stretched lines and quickly had the fire under control with minutes of their arrival. There was no one inside the business at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. Damage from the fire is estimated at around $2000.00 dollars and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
