Three Recovering From Merced Shooting Print E-mail

MERCED - Three individuals are recovering from gunshot wounds from a shooting last weekend that occurred at the apartment complex at 3105 meadows. On Saturday, officers responded to several calls of shots fired and upon arrival located three victims with no life threatening injuries.

One victim was transported to local hospital and was later released, while two victims were transported to Modesto hospital for their injuries. At this time the victims name are confidential because the shooting is gang related.

Merced Teen Arrested With Sawed-off Shotgun Print E-mail

MERCED - A 17 year old Merced juvenile was arrested yesterday for possession of a sawed off shotgun at his residence in the 3200 block of San Mateo Ct. Police believe he might be the suspect responsible for the attempted robbery and shooting last week on the bike path near Fahren’s Park. The victim was riding his bicycle on the bike path when he was confronted by the suspect. As the victim was riding away, he was shot in the back with a shotgun.

Police received a tip yesterday that the juvenile might be involved with the shooting. The juvenile who is on probation with search and seizure was attending Yosemite High when he was contacted by the police and brought to his residence.

NASHVILLE TN – Country Music Hall of Famer, Grand Ole Opry member, and Kennedy Center Honoree George Glenn Jones died Friday, April 26, 2013 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. He was hospitalized April 18 with fever and irregular blood pressure.

Born September 12, 1931, Jones is regarded among the most important and influential singers in American popular music history. He was the singer of enduring country music hits including “She Thinks I Still Care,” “The Grand Tour,” “Walk Through This World With Me,” “Tender Years” and “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” the latter of which is often at the top of industry lists of the greatest country music singles of all time.

MADERA - If you were anywhere near the Madera Fair Grounds Sunday you probably have a very black and blued arm from all the "Slug Bugging" going on in the area. A few hundred vintage Volkswagen enthusiast descended on the fair grounds to celebrate everything air cooled at the 2013 Madera Spring Fling.

There was a car show with nearly every model of vintage and modern Volkswagen on display. Over on the grass venders were selling everything from cars and car parts to t-shirts and hats. There was even one booth with vintage toys and Coca-Cola items. And lets not forget the VW Hot Wheels Drag Racing for the "kids".

Two Men Convicted of First Degree Murder in Dairy Killing Print E-mail

MADERA - Jesus Reynoso Flores and Jose Antonio Flores-Ventura were each convicted of first degree murder with special circumstances, and a second count of attempted murder by separate Madera Superior Court juries this morning, said Madera County District Attorney Michael R. Keitz.

Evidence presented at trial showed that on January 19th, 2008, Flores (25) and Ventura (27) both of Chowchilla, went to the Coelho Dairy in Chowchilla to rob the milkers following their payday. They entered the milking parlor, and Flores shot milker Alberto Navarez-Torres two times, killing him, and Sergio Alejandre was shot once in the head.
