Merced Man Arrested For Auto Theft & Weapons Possession Print E-mail

MERCED - Merced Police located an unoccupied stolen vehicle parked in the 3200 blk of Dublin Ave early Thursday morning. The 1999 Honda Civic had been reported stolen earlier in the day from an address in South Merced. Officer’s working in the North area set-up on the vehicle hoping to identify the driver.

Within several minutes an unidentified Asian male adult got into the vehicle and drove away. Officer Nelson along with Officer Bowen and Salyers made a felony car stop on E. Alexander & Sycamore Dr. The driver was taken into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded 38 caliber revolver, a small amount of Marijuana and several stolen car stereos.

FBI's Activities Raise Constitutional Concerns and Violate Federal Privacy Law
 
NEW YORK – For several years, the FBI's San Francisco office conducted a "Mosque Outreach" program that collected and illegally stored intelligence about American Muslims' First Amendment-protected beliefs and religious practices, according to government documents released today by the American Civil Liberties Union from a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit brought by the ACLU of Northern California, Asian Law Caucus and the San Francisco Bay Guardian. 

The San Francisco FBI's own documents, obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, show that it recorded Muslim religious leaders' and congregants' identities, personal information and religious views and practices. The documents also show that the FBI labeled this information as "positive intelligence" and disseminated it to other government agencies, placing the people and organizations involved at risk of greater law enforcement scrutiny as potential national security threats.  None of the documents indicate that the FBI told individuals interviewed that their information and views were being collected as intelligence, and would be recorded and disseminated.

SAN FRANCISCO - After a 47-year career in the state justice system, Mr. Frederick “Fritz” K. Ohlrich will retire as Clerk/Administrator of the California Supreme Court effective June 29, 2012, it was announced today by Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye.

Arrest Made in Merced Gas Station Robberies Print E-mail

MERCED - The responsible for the robbery and attempted robbery that occurred at the Smiley’s Shell gas station earlier this month has been arrested by Officer Ramon Ruiz. The arrest was made on Friday night in the 1800 block of I St. The suspect has been identified as Fredrick Brigham.

The first robbery occurred on March12th at approximately 2045 hours. The suspect entered the gas station wearing a dark color sweatshirt with a hoodie demanding money from the clerk. The suspect had his hand in his sweatshirt and simulated as if he had a handgun. The suspect was last seeing running northbound from the station. It was reported approximately 800 hundred dollars was taken during the robbery.
