FRESNO - Kevin Smith (24), a gang member from Fresno, has been federally indicted for illegal firearm possession. The federal indictment stems from an investigation by the Fresno Police Department (FPD) South Bureau Impact Team, during which a stolen handgun and drugs were recovered.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) took up investigating the FPD case and the United States Attorney’s Office (Eastern District of California) federally indicted Smith under the Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) initiative.

CLOVIS - Parents are asking the Clovis Unified School District to reject a proposed high school sex education curriculum, saying that it is inadequate and still contains dangerous misinformation about sexual health. The school board is scheduled to vote this evening on whether to adopt or reject the proposed curriculum.
The new proposed curriculum comes after parents, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Gay-Straight Alliance Network, represented by the ACLU and pro bono counsel, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, sued the district in August 2012 for violating the state’s comprehensive sex education law.

FRESNO - The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office today announced the arrest of an 18 year old Clovis man in connection with the stabbing and armed robbery of a Clovis juvenile. Arrested was Jeremie Pat Barnick of Clovis.
This past Saturday night, shortly after 8:00pm, deputies were dispatched to the McDonalds Restaurant located at Ashlan & Clovis regarding a stabbing call.

MADERA COUNTY – Marijuana season has come to an abrupt end for one band of growers on the valley floor. Thanks to a citizen’s tip to MADNET, more than 1600 plants were ripped out of five plots located on a 39 acre parcel of prime agricultural land Monday afternoon.
The 39-acre grow site was discovered on Avenue 11, west of Highway 41. Two people, one from San Diego, another from Fresno, were caught tending the gardens when agents arrived on scene.

MADERA COUNTY – Two Oakhurst women spent part of this past weekend behind bars after deputies found the pair camping behind a business off Highway 49 and Meadow Vista Drive in Oakhurst.
Nichole Heck (19) and Roxanne Castagnetto (37) were taken into custody Friday and booked into Madera County Department of Corrections for trespassing.
