MADERA - Last month a Madera Unified School District bus driver neglected to adequately check her bus at the end of her shift and ended up locking a sleeping child in the school bus at the district's bus yard. Newly hired district transportation director Theodore Newton refused to answer any questions regarding the incident.

A video taken by this bus's security camera, which a handful of district bus drivers have seen, shows a hysterical ten year old third grader desperately trying to free himself from the locked bus for over twelve minutes. He finally gets the attention of another bus driver who unlocks the bus, freeing the boy. After he is freed, the transportation department drove the boy home from the bus yard. Madera Unified will not release the name of the school the boy attends or even the bus number. We have made a request to view the video to no avail.
