CHOWCHILLA – Madera County Sheriff John Anderson announced the passing of a respected citizen volunteer and valued friend. COP Gerald Kusa, known to his colleagues and friends as Jerry, died Suddenly this past Sunday. Kusa joined the Madera County Sheriff’s nationally recognized Citizens On Patrol unit in October 2011.
His beat, primarily Chowchilla, would often extend beyond that part of the county into other sections on the Valley floor and even taking him to perform assignments in the foothills of Eastern Madera County.

AN UNSOLVED MURDER IN MADERA: Part 4
MADERA - As the local leads were drying up on the March 19, 1985 murder of Thomas Jefferson Junior High teacher, Glenn Reitz, the Madera Police got a big break in the case. A partial license plate belonging to Reitz was found near a burned out car in a gravel pit in Louisiana.
On April 7, 1985 Barry Culpepper, owner of a gravel pit near Arcadia, Louisiana reported to the Bienville Parish Sheriff's Department that he had found a burned car on his property approximately 150 yards west of the intersections of Parish Roads 402 & 446.

FRESNO - On Tuesday March 19, 2013, just after 12:00 p.m., the Fresno Police Department received a call of a non-injury traffic collision in the area of Cedar and Clinton. A citizen reported that a vehicle had rear ended his vehicle while he was waiting for a red light at the intersection.
When the citizen attempted to exchange information with the other driver, the driver fled the scene westbound on Clinton. The fleeing vehicle was described as a maroon colored Dodge Durango.

MADERA COUNTY -- Joshua Oldham (18) of Coarsegold is facing charges for brandishing a replica handgun as he drove past a school bus stop yesterday afternoon. According to reports, Oldham, a passenger inside the vehicle, was seen raising the weapon as his car passed by a bus stop shortly after 4 PM.

VISALIA - Visalia property owners voted to continue a 48 cent monthly fee and to expand the use of the monies collected to reduce the risk of local flooding through increased maintenance of the storm water drainage system. The measure passed with 58.47% of those voting yes to continue the fee.
“While much work has been done to reduce the likelihood and severity, the City has a history of flooding,” said Visalia Mayor Amy Shuklian. “Thanks to the property owners who voted to support this fee extension, it will make a real difference in our ability to adequately maintain the waterways and reduce the risk of flooding. We appreciate the support.”
