Madera High Graduates 116th Class Print E-mail

MADERA - The graduates of Madera High School's 116th class walked two by two into their future during one of the longest playing of the "Pomp and Circumstance March" ever. At times it almost seemed as if no one was moving but once all the graduates actually took their seats the evening progressed smoothly. That is until there was a distraction for MHS Principal Kent Albertson, like a beach ball.

With record temperatures starting to top the century mark, parents came prepared to the outdoor graduation at Madera High's Memorial Stadium with bottles of drinking water. However at Albertson's direction, Madera Unified Security confiscated everyone's water at the gate. Yet the school  did provided bottles of water free of charge to Madera Unified board members and district employees. Of course bottled water was for sale to parents and visitors in the snack bar.

Madera South's Fifth Graduating Class Leaves It's Mark Print E-mail

MADERA - This year the fifth graduating class of Madera South High School kicked off two days of high school graduations at Madera High's Memorial Stadium. Thursday night Madera High will take the stage but on Wednesday the Stallions road proudly into their future on Lee DaSilva Field.

The class of 2013 produced a record 30 valedictorians who were all honored during the ceremony. Madera Unified Superintendent Dr. Anthony Monreal gave the address and Ismael Guzman-Berdejo, Aimee Elizarraras, Sumayyah Din and Adriano Coronado all delivered the students speeches that was topped off with the release of hundreds of black and purple balloons.

2012 Old Timer's Day Parade Print E-mail

MADERA - The 81st annual Old Timers Day Parade stepped off Saturday morning in downtown Madera. The event, sponsored by the original Madera Kiwanis Club, has taken place in Madera since 1931 (except for a few years for a World War). This years parade had 57 entries, which included bands from Madera and Chowchilla schools and of course politicians.

This year's Grand Marshal was Tom Schoettler who, along with his wife, were driven in the parade by their son Kenny. Mr. Schoettler is the owner of Schoettler Tire and has been a long time support of youth sports and Madera High School. The King and Queen for this years parade was Mr. Bill Wood and Mrs. Lorraine Ocheltree.

Slug Bug in Madera: VW Spring Fest 2013 Print E-mail

MADERA - If you were anywhere near the Madera Fair Grounds Sunday you probably have a very black and blued arm from all the "Slug Bugging" going on in the area. A few hundred vintage Volkswagen enthusiast descended on the fair grounds to celebrate everything air cooled at the 2013 Madera Spring Fling.

There was a car show with nearly every model of vintage and modern Volkswagen on display. Over on the grass venders were selling everything from cars and car parts to t-shirts and hats. There was even one booth with vintage toys and Coca-Cola items. And lets not forget the VW Hot Wheels Drag Racing for the "kids".

Stallions Lose First Homecoming in Three Years - Guzman & Maciel Named King & Queen Print E-mail

MADERA - The Madera South Stallions celebrated their fourth annual homecoming this year and the theme was 'Stallions Reignite the Olympic Torch'. On Friday a parade started at Memorial Stadium on Coyote Lane and worked its way to the boys gym at the Madera South campus.

This years grand marshal was Bob Madson, former vice principal of the school and now part-time golfer. Madson spent the last thirty plus years in education, a family vocation, and was vice principal at both South and Madera High School.
