Fred Gleason (82)

Fred Gleason (82), of Stevinson formerly of Madera, passed away suddenly as a result of an automobile accident on March 2, 2019. Fred was born on January 3, 1937 to  Alice and Jim Gleason  in Fresno, Ca. He attended Heaton School.  At  the age of 9 years old the family moved to Taft, Ca.

When Fred was in high school, they moved to Santa Maria, California, where Fred graduated from Santa Maria High School. In 1956, the family moved to Madera, Ca where he met Barbara Sordi.  They were married in 1958.  From this union they had two children, Julie and Curt.  Fred graduated from Fresno State with a B.S. in Agriculture in 1960.

Fred joined the Air National Guard in 1959, he was an airman 3rd class.  Fred’s careers included working for Ortho Chemical Company as a field representative. He worked for Allied Equipment Company selling farm equipment from 1962 to 1966. In 1966, Fred went to wok for the Ambassador Greeting Card Company, a subsidiary of Hallmark Greeting Cards. He remained at Hallmark until his retirement.

His hobbies included: team roping, competitive swimming, including his time as lifeguard at avila beach and a lifeguard at Madera Swimming Pool Park. His hobbies also included hunting and fishing.

Fred was involved in local politics serving as president of The Young Republicans and chaired many political campaigns.  He was president and member of Madera Exchange club.  Fred worked with the Madera American Red Cross as their Chairman of Water Safety Services.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Alice Gleason, daughter Julie Mccully, his  second wife, Suzanne Koch and sister-in-law, Loyce Geason.

Fred is survived by, his son, Curt Gleason, his brother, Don Gleason, his son-in-law Eric Mccully,  his grandchildren: Garrett Mccully, Caitlen Mccully, Cole Mccully and Lilly Gleason and his Great granddaughter, Bella. His ex-wife, Barbara Gleason

Gravesite memorial services will be held on, Friday May 31, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Mountain View  Cemetery, 1411 W. Belmont Ave. Fresno, CA: Condolences may be offered by visiting Farewell’s website by clicking here.
