Don L. Floyd (93)

Don L. Floyd (93) of Madera passed away at his home on December 11, 2020. Don was a resident of Madera for the past 59 years. He was born in Sugar Creek Township, Indiana on March 5, 1927, to Ray L Floyd and Flossie Glaze Floyd. Following high school, Don was drafted into the United States Army in 1945 where he served in the 1st armored division in Germany at the end of World War II.

After his military service, Don returned home to Indiana to work for Allison Transmission in Indianapolis, Indiana. After a short while, Don left Allison to work on the Texas Pipeline. Following that job, Don again returned home to Indiana to work in the commissary of the Turkey Run States Park.
In 1961 Don ran an appliance store in Rockville, Indiana. It was at this time he met his first wife Melba Lewis. The two would marry and relocate to California where Don would start work at Madera Furniture. Soon after arriving in Madera, Melba passed away from cancer.

In 1963 Don started working in real estate where he met and married Norma Montgomery. In 1964 Don and Norma purchased the Oh Boy Drive-in restaurant. Don would continue in real estate for nearly 40 years.

Don was involved in many organizations in Madera. He was a member of the Madera County Republican Central Committee, California Board of Realtors, Madera Kiwanis, Madera Elks Lodge, American Legion Post 48, and the Madera Chamber of Commerce for which he was a founding member. In 2006 Don received the Lifetime Achievement award from the Chamber. Don had a big heart and would do anything to help someone in need. He was a respected member of the Madera business community for many years.

In 1982 Don married Judy Wilkins and they would enjoy 18 years together before Judy passed away in 2000. In 2007 Don’s second wife Norma would move in with him and took care of him for the last 13 years of his life.

Don is survived by his second wife Norma, his two children Jeff and Melissa. He also leaves behind six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on December 30, 2020, at Arbor Vitae Cemetary at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Don’s name to the Saint Agnes Hospice Services in Fresno.
