Former Redevelopment Director Passes: James Taubert (71)

MADERA - James “Jimbo” Taubert (71) unexpectedly passed away on March 20, 2024, at the age of 71 in Marina, California. It was on the day of his late mother’s birthday and the day after his wedding anniversary to his loving wife, Mardi, of 41 years. Jim’s parents, Bette and Ron, had four kids, Jim being the only son. He will be remembered by his sisters Cheryl (Steve), Joni (Danny), Candi, and their families.

Jim and Mardi started their adventure in Madera in 1983 and soon created a family with three beautiful children: Jared, Courtney, and Cameron. As they’ve spent time together since his passing, they realize they were blessed with the most amazing father and life mentor a child could ask for. Jim showed his dedication to his family in many ways, from coaching them in sports to supporting their ambitions and dreams.

Anyone who knew Jim also knew that he was just as dedicated to the town of Madera and extremely proud to have lived and raised his family here. As the former Executive Director of the Redevelopment Agency, Jim was always focused on making Madera a better place for future generations.

Speaking of generations, Jim also leaves behind four amazing grandchildren: Dominic, Jackson, Chiara, and Reagan. These four grandchildren were Jim’s happy place in life, as they would run into his arms yelling “Pops, Pops, Pops” on their many visits together.

Jim also loved eating out anywhere with great food and wine, driving to the beach with Mardi, and listening to Jimmy Buffet's “Margaritaville” radio station on the way. When Jim wasn’t enjoying time with his wife, playing with his grandchildren, or conversing with his kids, he usually watched all 162 LA Dodgers games. But not on Sundays, as Jim was also a committed member of the Harvest Community Church, where he also played the Elder role.

His family's message to Jim was, "We know that with the relationship he made with God, Jim will surely be resting in peace. Jim, Jimbo, and Pops, you will be remembered by so many, and we know you will be watching us from Heaven as we continue to strive to make you proud."

A memorial service will honor Jim's life on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 10:00 am at Harvest Community Church, 2001 National Ave., Madera, CA 93637.

Jim was a cancer survivor, and remembrances may be made to the Madera Relay for Life via the American Cancer Society c/o 2444 Frederick Ct., Madera, CA 93637, with memory of Jim in the memo.

Earlier this year, Jim was celebrated with the dedication of the city of Madera's newest park in his name. So now, the name and the service he gave back to his community will be remembered for generations.
