Fresno Grizzlies Manager Tony DeFrancesco Not Returning in 2018

HOUSTON, TX — Triple A Fresno manager Tony DeFrancesco will not return for the 2018 season, Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow announced today. The Astros are supporting DeFrancesco’s efforts to seek new opportunities in baseball.

DeFrancesco spent the last seven seasons managing the Astros Triple A affiliate, beginning with four seasons with Oklahoma City (2011-14) and then the last three with Fresno (2015-17). In 2015, he was named Baseball America Minor League Manager of the Year after leading the Grizzlies to the Pacific Coast League championship and the Triple A National Championship. DeFrancesco also served as interim manager for the Astros Major League club for the final 41 games of the 2012 season.

Tedford Era Opens with 66-point Bulldog Blowout Win Over Incarnate Word

FRESNO - The Jeff Tedford era opened in style on Saturday night at Bulldog Stadium as the 'Dogs blanked Incarnate Word 66-0 behind 613 yards of offense in front of 39,447. On a night that saw legendary Bulldog quarterback Derek Carr have his No. 4 jersey retired in a halftime ceremony, the Bulldogs offense flashed back to Carr's Senior Night scoring the most points in a game since November 23, 2013 when they piled on 69 in a 41-point win over New Mexico.

Saturday's shutout was the first pitched by the Bulldogs since September 5, 2009 (vs. UC Davis). The 'Dogs held Incarnate Word to 125 yards of offense on the night, including negative 30 yards rushing for a new Bulldog Stadium record for fewest rushing yards by an opponent. UIW had 60 yards after three quarters of play.

Beer Back at Bulldog Stadium

FRESNO - Fresno State fans will once again be able to purchase beer at football games at Bulldog Stadium starting this fall. The change results from Executive Order 1109, a new California State University system-wide policy that allows each of the 23 CSU campuses to decide whether to reinstate the sale and service of alcohol at university intercollegiate athletic events.

Alcohol was last sold at Fresno State football games during the 2005 season, before a previous CSU executive order initiated a ban on sales in 2006. This change in CSU policy, which was announced June 30, is the result of an examination of trends and practices at numerous comparable higher education institutions, as well as an evaluation of existing practices involving the sale and service of alcoholic beverages at athletic events held at third-party venues or facilities owned or operated by CSU auxiliaries.

Bulldogs Lady's Volleyball Roll to 3-0 Sweep at San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO - After dodging three set points to win the first set 28-26, Fresno State dominated the next two sets to finish a 3-0 (28-26, 25-17, 25-15) sweep over San Francisco in the first of two matches in San Francisco on Saturday. The 'Dogs will conclude the weekend facing Pepperdine at 4:30.

Fresno State (2-0) beat a San Francisco (1-1) team that swept fellow Mountain West member Nevada, 3-0, in its season opener on Friday night. The Bulldogs held the Dons to .108 hitting for the match while hitting .264 with seven aces and five blocks.

Buddy Shepherd Secures K&N Ride But Will Miss Round #6 at Madera

MADERA - RPM Mortgage Pro Late Model Series point leader Buddy Shepherd was scheduled to compete in round number six of the MAVTV televised series at Madera Speedway on August 26th until he received a phone call that not only changed his plans for August 26th but could also change the trajectory of his racing career.

After winning multiple races at Madera Speedway on television in 2017 Shepherd will now drive for Jefferson Pitts Racing at Douglas County Speedway in Oregon in the NASCAR K&N West Race on August 26th missing the race at Madera and likely giving up his point lead. Jefferson Pitts Racing is one of the top K&N teams in the business and put Kevin Harvick in victory lane at Sears Point this past June.
