BASS LAKE - At about 7:30 Saturday evening, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a home invasion robbery in the 36000 block of Cedar Lane near Bass Lake. When Deputies arrived they found that a 77 year old female and her adult son had been robbed by two suspects who had knocked on the door and then forced their way into the home. The female sustained significant injuries and was transported to a hospital in Fresno; her adult son was not injured.
One suspect was described as tall and thin with long hair, the other suspect was described as shorter and stockier. Both suspects were wearing sweatshirts; the taller suspect had a hood and mask. The male victim further described the suspects as possibly Native American.
The suspects apparently ransacked the house and stole at least a handgun; it has not been determined if additional property was taken during the robbery. The suspects reportedly left on foot and there is no suspect vehicle description.
Sheriff Jay Varney announced Monday morning that one of the suspects has been arrested. Alvin McDonald III (18) of North Fork, was arrested shortly before 11:00 AM this morning. Sheriff’s personnel are continuing the search for the second suspect, who has been identified as Ray Coleman (23) of North Fork.
McDonald was arrested for attempted murder, robbery, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon-firearm, elder abuse, conspiracy, and using a firearm during the commission of a felony. Coleman will be arrested for the same charges.
The 77 year old female victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.
