CLOVIS - Property crimes detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office are searching for the person(s) responsible for a burglary at a home located in Monte Verdi Estates. A homeowner came home around midnight on Thursday and found their Mercedes SUV was gone and items misplaced in the garage.
Out of concern for their safety, they did not enter the house and quickly called the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to the gated community near Friant Road and Willow Ave. in Clovis. They searched inside the home and did not find anyone. They did discover that along with the SUV, a large John Deere safe containing several guns (mostly rifles) was taken.
Detectives are working to collect surveillance video from around the area and are interviewing neighbors in hopes of identifying the suspect(s). It’s been determined that the burglary occurred on Wednesday, April 18th, sometime between 4:30 pm and 10:00 pm.
Detectives have found the stolen Mercedes SUV, which was abandoned in the area of Blackstone and Dakota Avenues in Fresno. None of the stolen items were inside. The vehicle is being processed for evidence. It is possible that the suspect(s) emptied the safe and dumped it along a street or roadside. Detectives would like the public to keep an eye out and report it immediately if they are to find the safe.
