Attempted Murder Suspect Returned to Merced After Four Years On The Run

MERCED - On April 04, 2014, Merced Police Department officers responded to the 3200 block of Juneau Ct. for a shots fired call. Officers arrived in the area and located a male victim who had been shot twice in the upper body.

On the day of incident officers arrested and booked two subjects for their involvement in the gang related shooting. Those subjects were identified as Michael Janes (27) and Adrian Delgado (27). Upon further investigation, investigators determined that Andrew Ybarra had also been involved in the shooting. When detectives went to arrest Ybarra, it was discovered that Ybarra had fled California to avoid arrest.

Several years after the initial shooting, MPD detectives learned that Ybarra was hiding out in New Mexico. Shortly after obtaining this new information, detectives were able to make contact with law enforcement in New Mexico. Law enforcement officers in New Mexico were able to arrest Ybarra on an attempted murder warrant.

On June 06, 2018, Ybarra was turned over to the custody of MPD detectives. Once Ybarra was transported back to Merced, he was interviewed and booked into Merced County Jail on his warrant.

Merced Police are asking anyone with any information regarding this crime to contact Detective Moses Nelson at (209) 388-7756. The public can send information via anonymous text messages to police department by dialing “TIP411” (847411) and including the word “Comvip” as the “keyword” in the text message.
