MADERA – Thanks to one particular reader of Big Valley News the suspect in a recent rash of mail thefts on Madera’s Westside has now been identified. James “Skyy” Vasquez (19) was identified by his mother following seeing his photos on our Facebook page.
Big Valley News shared the information with Madera Police Wednesday evening only to learn the next morning the suspect was arrested overnight by Fresno Police on car theft charges and an active warrant for domestic violence.
Tuesday afternoon reports started coming into the Madera Police Department’s dispatch regarding package thefts caught on security videos from homes on the westside of Madera. Three home owners filed reports with the police and provided video of the suspect caught in the act.
One of the three homeowners that reported the thefts caught the suspect stealing a recently delivered package of “dog food” from Amazon, then running to a getaway car parked in the driveway. That car is believed to be the same vehicle the suspect was arrested in last night.
Vasquez was wanted on a $30,000 felony warrant for “Infliction of Corporal Injury on a Spouse”. He was arrested along with a female accomplice, Ruby Ortiz (23) who is also in Fresno County custody on a $15,000 bail hold for the stolen vehicle.
Detective Sergeant Marc Truckee of the Madera Police Department issued this statement on the department’s Facebook page. “Thanks to the community involvement we received information on the identity of the suspect, who stole several packages over the last few days. He has been identified as 19yr. old James "Sky" Vasquez. This is yet again a great example of how we can accomplish more, when we as a community come together and lookout for one another.”
Thank you to the over 8000 readers that viewed the suspect’s photos within the first 24 hours and the 140+ people that shared those photos on their own Facebook pages. This was a great help in quickly getting the information to the one person who could with one hundred percent accuracy ID this guy, his mother.
We are awaiting confirmation on whether any of the stolen packages have been recovered and therefore when one little dog in Madera can expect his food to arrive.
