FRESNO - Southeast Special Response Team Officer Sergio Gonzalez and Officer Steve Baiza responded Wednesday evening to the area of Chestnut Ave and Florence Ave regarding a call for service of 14 shots fired. Southeast Patrol Officers also responded to the call and canvassed the area.
While canvassing the area, SRT Officer Baiza observed two men in the 2200 block S Garden Avenue run into a house as they were approaching. SRT Officers stopped at the home and contacted 25 year-old Nathan James, a Bond Street Bulldog Associate near the open garage. James was intoxicated and when questioned, denied having knowledge of shots fired in the area.
SRT Officers located three live .223 rounds on the ground near the garage door entrance while talking with James. SRT Officers search the home based on consent and located an assault weapon with a loaded 40 round magazine, 14 expended .223 casings in the garage, and a 50 round 9MM drum style magazine.
Nathan James was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail for possession of an assault weapon, a 40 round high capacity magazine loaded with 19 live .223 rounds and a 50 round high capacity magazine. Please view attached pictures of the assault weapon and of suspect Nathan James.
The Southeast Special Response Team has removed fifty five (55) firearms from the streets of Southeast Fresno since its inception January 8, 2018, which has contributed to the reduction of gun violence, making Southeast Fresno a safer place to live.
