Sexually Violent Predator Prisoner Released to Madera County by Judge Stephanie Jamieson

MADERA COUNTY - The Madera County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware that on May 16, 2024, Judge Stephanie Jamieson of the Merced Superior Court ruled Ciro Camacho should no longer be classified as a Sexually Violent Predator and ordered him released from the California State Hospital, despite opposing evidence presented by the Merced County District Attorney’s Office.

Camacho was convicted of multiple counts of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child under 14 in 1993. Upon release, Camacho indicated that he would be residing in Madera County.

Our Office has no influence over the outcome of the hearing nor the decision made. We were not involved in the proceedings and had no authority to challenge or alter the judgment rendered in this case. In the interest of public safety, we feel compelled to share this information with our community.

Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue remarks, “We are deeply disappointed in Judge Jamieson’s decision to release Ciro Camacho, particularly in light of the strong opposition by the Merced District Attorney’s Office. Should Camacho relocate to Madera County, we are fully committed to enforcing all state registration requirements and informing the public. Our top priority remains the safety and security of our community members, and we appreciate the Merced District Attorney’s Office advocating for the continued detention of this individual.”

Camacho remains in custody at this time.

Merced Superior Court Judge Stephanie L. Jamieson, 37, of Patterson, was appointed to the bench by California Governor Gavin Newsome in November of 2021. In 2013, Jamieson served as a Deputy Public Defender at the Merced County Public Defender’s Office. She was a sole practitioner from 2011 to 2012 and an Independent contractor at the Law Office of Victor Vertner from 2011 to 2012. Jamieson earned a Master of Laws degree from the California Western School of Law and a Juris Doctor degree from the Santa Clara University School of Law. She fills the vacancy of a new position created on September 24, 2019. Jamieson is a Democrat.
