Patricia (Patty) Moglia (85)

Patricia (Patty) Cecile Markle Moglia (85) was born to Jess and Pauline Markle on October 21, 1937, in Madera, CA. She was a resident of Madera, CA, where she passed on March 7, 2023, at age 85. Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Pauline Markle, her husband, Norman Moglia, and her son, Chris Moglia.

She is survived by her sister Jeanie Carregin (Bob Cole), her sister Anita Shepard (Richard), her brother Matt Markle (Joyce); son Brett Moglia (Kristie), grandchildren Logan, Kaylynne, John, and Taylyr; and her great-grandchildren Londynn and Dynver.

Patty was a member of the Fresno State Alumni Association and the California Retired Teachers Association.  She is a namesake for the annual Fresno State Norm and Patty Moglia Outstanding Band Alumnus Award.

Patty was a majorette at Madera High School.  She was also a featured twirler for Fresno Community Band, where she met her future husband, Norm. While at Fresno State, she was a majorette and graduated with her teaching credential to start her 37 year teaching career.

Patty founded Valley Twirlerettes, where girls of all ages could learn twirling and boys of all ages could learn drumline (hundreds of youth went through this program). For most of her teaching years, she was at Wilson Middle School in Chowchilla where she coordinated majorettes, flag girls, and letter girls for Norm’s band as well as annual band shows, which were variety shows that featured student performers with choreography and costumes by Patty. Once she changed from teaching English to History, she put on an annual renaissance fair at Wilson for several years. Multiple generations went through the Moglia’s programs in Chowchilla.  While she loved working with students, her favorite kids to work with were her grandkids. Upon retiring, Patty and Norm volunteered in all the grandkid's classes.

Following Norm’s passing, she volunteered with the Madera County Library. She continued to be the family host of all get-togethers, featuring everything cooked from scratch until 2018, when she moved into Cedar Creek Senior Living. All the staff was amazed at how fast she learned everyone's names! Even in her last days, she could recall any year's student.

Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 10:00 am at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera, California.

Remembrances can be sent to California Retired Teachers Association - Scholarship.
