SACRAMENTO - Two weeks ago, Aisiah Tuiasosopo won a Mountain West title hammer throw title by four inches but on Saturday she was on the opposite end at the NCAA West Preliminary Round, missing a trip to the NCAA Championships by just one-quarter of an inch as she attempted to extend her collegiate career another two weeks.
After a pair of fouls to start Saturday's competition, the Bulldog senior landed the second-best throw of her career at 61.30m/201'-1". Unfortunately, the attempt was just outside of the final qualifying spot of 61.33m/201'-2" as she would finish 14th overall.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Morgan Lewis also missed qualifying for nationals after placing 20th. The freshman took seventh in the second heat at 13.57. Lewis finished three-tenths back of the final qualifying spot.
Vanja Spaic will be the lone Bulldog heading to the NCAA Championships this year in Eugene, Oregon. The junior javelin thrower will be making her second straight appearance. She is scheduled to compete on June 7 at 5:15 p.m. at Hayward Field.
