Two Women Killed at the Hands of a Family Member

MADERA - Earlier Thursday evening Madera Police officers were dispatched to a report of a stabbing near Almond Avenue and Pear Street in the area of Road 28.  When officers arrived, they found that three women had been stabbed and the suspect was a family member.

Because of the nature of their wounds first responders believed the victims would not survive transportation to a Fresno hospital, ambulances were diverted to Madera Community Hospital.  While in transport, two of the victims died from their wounds. The third victim is in stable condition.

The suspect, Deijon Shequan Walker, is related to the victims and had been staying at their residence. The victims are believed to be aunts of the suspect. Madera Police Chief Dino Lawson says the victims were Betty Terrell, Tonya Terrell, and a third woman who is believed to be a minor.

After the stabbing, the suspect stole one of the victims’ vehicles and fled the scene. A short time later, the suspect crashed into a motorist on Avenue 12 in Madera County, causing injuries to the other driver. Walker fled this scene as well in the stolen vehicle.

Walker’s vehicle was located abandoned in the area of Avenue 9 and Road 36 in a dirt field. California Highway Patrol, Madera PD Special Investigations Unit (SIU), and the Madera County Sheriff’s Department began searching the surrounding area and discovered Walker hidding in the area.

Walker was not compliant and was under the influence. He had to be Tasered and his legs were restrained.  The suspect was reportedly in a "drug-induced psychosis" and has been for that past few days. It is unclear what role that may have played in this crime.

Walker is now facing two counts of homicide and one count of attempted murder.
