Thomas H. “Tom” Austin (84)

Thomas H. “Tom” Austin (84) and a 50 year resident of Madera County, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at his Madera home.  He was born in Claremore, OK. and raised in Merced, CA., graduating from Merced High School in 1952. Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean Conflict and was a member of both V.F.W. and the American Legion. 

He was the founder and owner of Ag and Industrial Supply and Firebaugh Ag Supply. He was also a member of the Cherokee Heritage Association, Firebaugh Lion’s Club, Tin Can Sailors, USS Saint Paul Assn., and the Las Palmas Masonic Lodge in Fresno.  Tom loved camping with his family, square dancing, RV travel and visiting with friends and family.

He is survived by RoseMarie Austin, his high school sweetheart and wife of 63 years, son, Brian Austin of Madera, CA and daughters, Dianne Austin of Kailua Kona, HI and Sally Austin Balcazar of Madera, CA.  Tom is also survived by his 6 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 11:00 am at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, CA. with a Celebration of Life Memorial at the Madera American Legion Post 11 on Saturday, April 7th at 11:00 am.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Madera American Legion Post 11, VFW Post 1981 or to a Veteran’s charity of choice.
