Alfred Tamberi (92)

Alfred Tamberi (92) passed away peacefully after a long illness on Monday, February 9, 2015 at the age of 92. He was born on May 30, 1922 to parents Paul and Marianna (Micheli) Tamberi.

Al attended local schools and graduated from Madera Union High School in 1941. He worked in the lumber industry and construction until his enlistment into the U.S. Army Air Forces/Army Air Corps during WWII. He saw action in Italy and while there was able to meet his namesake, his maternal grandfather, Alfredo Micheli in addition to all of his aunts and uncles in San Felippo, Lucca, Italy.

After his discharge, he returned to Madera to resume his lifelong career as a master cabinetmaker. Al was a member of the Italo-American Lodge, the Elks Lodge, St. Joachim Catholic Church, and the Madera Golf and Country Club.

In 1950, Al married the love of his life, Edith Copland. Together they had three children and lived happily until Edith's untimely death from cancer in 1966. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Josie Lari. He is survived by his brother, Adolf Tamberi; his three children and their spouses, Janis Tamberi (Brian Williams), Jeanette Tamberi Lopez (Raul Lopez), George Tamberi (Jane Avedikian Tamberi); six grandchildren, Haley Tamberi, Grayson Tamberi, Ricky Lopez, Suzanne (Tab) Black, Sarah (Kyle) Potter, Meghan Carter; two great-grandchildren, Carson Potter, Elle Potter; in addition to the many beloved nieces and nephews here in the U.S. and numerous cousins and one surviving aunt, Gloria Micheli, in Lucca, Italy.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all the wonderful individuals at Cedar Creek where he resided the past 4 years for all their care, assistance, and compassion they gave to him; also to the nurses/staff at Horizon Health & Subacute Center and St. Agnes Hospice for his excellent care and their support.

Al was a devoted husband, wonderful father, and proud grandfather with a love of people and laughter. He always had a story to tell and a smile on his face. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family forever.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Recitation of the Rosary to follow, 7:00 p.m. at Jay Chapel, Madera, CA. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, 1:00 p.m. at St. Joachim Catholic Church, Madera, CA. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Madera, CA.

At Al's request in lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the St. Joachim's Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
