John Nick Peters (87) a native of Scottsbluff, NE & a resident of Madera, CA for 46 years, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018 in Madera, CA. In 1971, John moved his family to Madera & served the local community as the athletic director for Madera High School until 1989 when he retired. Following his passion for sports & youth, John continued to use his time serving Madera Unified School District on the Board of Trustees from 1998-2002.  

In his college years, John was a star football player for the University of Wyoming & was inducted into the Hall of Fame after the Gator Bowl championship in 1950. In 1984, John was the recipient of the Jim Echols Award for outstanding achievement in the field of athletics.  

John had more than a passion for sports. He had a passion for a lovely lady named Mary, the two joined together as husband & wife on August 18, 1958. John was preceded in death by his beautiful & loving wife, Mary, in 2015.

He is survived by his two sons: Kevin Peters & his wife Jean, & Kurt Peters & his wife Jennifer, all of Madera, CA, along with two brothers: Paul Peters of Elk Grove, CA & Pat Peters of Clayton, CA, one sister, Esther Yung of TX.  He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren: Camyle, Camryne, Kiana Peters, Andrea Nechay & Kevin Markarian. John will be greatly missed by his family & the community.

A memorial service will be held Monday, July 23, 2018 at 10:00 am at Jay Chapel in Madera. Internment will be at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera & a lunchon to follow at: Peters Brothers Banquet Hall, 1187 S. Granada Dr, Madera.
