The Face of Cancer Founder Dies: Holly Carter (50)

Holly Carter (50) was a beautiful, thoughtful and dedicated daughter, sister, mother and friend. She experienced great empathy for others, which allowed her to establish deep meaningful relationships and interact in a very touching and unique way.

In raising her four children, she was a courageous protector, taught profound devotion and exemplified perseverance. She considered her children, Tess, Christian, Hannah and Hope her greatest achievements. Upon being diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in 2009, she found new meaning in the name of her youngest daughter, Hope, who was only three at that time.

Holly dedicated her life to passionately serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by tirelessly giving to others as an extension of her experience of God’s unfailing love. As a result, all her children have followed in her steps by developing unique but deeply spiritual relationships with the Lord. Notably, her daughter, Hannah, spent four years in college ministering to college students on campus.

Holly had a remarkable work ethic, which was always evident and allowed her to achieve a bachelor’s degree in communications, despite being a single mother to four young children. With her degree, she used her passion and knowledge to establish Carter and Co. Communications, an award-winning public relations firm with a global clientele. As a successful businesswoman, Holly achieved many meaningful impacts within the community, and always fought for justice and virtue in all her endeavors.

Her vibrancy for life shined bright and was never dulled by its trials. Rather, she harnessed her experiences of hardships in life and health to better understand how to help other women (like herself) with terminal cancer.

By founding the non-profit, The Face of Cancer, Holly was able to empower women to renew their essence of beauty, feminism and self-confidence, while also highlighting their inner beauty and sharing their uniquely amazing stories.

Holly believed that we are so much stronger, both as individuals and together as a community, when we take time to listen, love and help our peers. That belief will live on with her surviving family members and the countless lives she has transformed.

Survivors: Mother: Pamela Joan Carter-Mayo and father: Thomas Carter; Children: Tess Knight, Christian Carlton, Hannah McKay and Hope Birges; Sister: Heather Carter and brothers: Thomas Carter and Christopher Carter

Services: 11 a.m. June 1, 2019, at The Well Community Church
