Richard (Rick) Albert Cosyns (64)

Richard (Rick) Albert Cosyns (64), as usual, arrived late, (two weeks at that) on January 21, 1957, in Long Beach, CA. However, he left this world early on Sept. 7, 2021, while doing what he loved, one of his bucket list hunts.

Born the third child to Albert and Margaret Cosyns. The family relocated to Madera, CA to build the family farm when Rick was 2 years old. He attended St. Joachim’s school and Madera High, where he loved playing football and was involved with his 4-H projects. Throughout his life, Rick enjoyed skiing, competitive shooting, traveling, and of course hunting. He graduated from Fresno State in Plant Science and became very involved in the industry as well as running the family farm with brother Allen.

Rick never met a stranger and as the life of the party, was always trying to make sure everyone was having as good a time as him. Rick loved his family and friends and spending time in the family orchards, vineyards, and family foothill ranch. He adored his wife Lynne, his son Will, and daughter Maggie. He and Lynne planned countless family adventures to experience together, often with family and great friends. Rick was just as comfortable in a sleeping bag under the stars while in pursuit of the animals he loved hunting but appreciated modern conveniences, a tasty cocktail, and his blow dryer.

As a longtime member of many wine clubs and a grape grower himself, Rick thoroughly enjoyed a great glass of wine. There are many nieces, nephews, and children of friends that were blessed by the fishing prowess of Rick, (he was called “Fish Man”) and he beamed when he had the chance to take a kid hunting and fishing for the first time. He also loved taking kids out waterskiing and tubing in the family heirloom boat “Old Yeller”.

Rick was a director on the Madera Irrigation District, served on the Madera Planning Commission, plus numerous other organizations over the years, and was a supportive parish member of St. Joaquim’s Catholic Church in Madera.

Rick was preceded on his ascent to Heaven by his father Albert and his mother Margaret. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 35 years Lynne, son Will, daughter Maggie, sister Linda and her husband Carlos Reynoso, brother Allen and his wife Susan Cosyns, a number of extended families, and a plethora of nieces and nephews.

The life of the party, Rick will be greatly missed but the memories he created with his family and friends will be cherished forever.

A Recitation of the Rosary will be Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at 7:00 pm at Jay Chapel in Madera, California. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at 11:00 am at St. Joachim Catholic Church.

Private family committal will be held at a later date.

Remembrance can be made in Rick’s name to: St. Joachim’s School Trust Fund, Madera Ag. Boosters, or your favorite charity.
