Fred G. Nix (75), died January 24, 2022, from a sudden illness. Born November 17, 1946, he was the only son of the late Gordon and Ann “Walker,” Nix in Madera, California. He attended local schools including John Adams, St. Joachim’s, Brenda, and Madera Union High School with the Class of 1964.

On graduation night instead of going through commencement exercises with his classmates, he opted to attend a Rolling Stones concert in Fresno a move he never regrated. He attended Fresno State and Fresno City colleges. After college, he worked for the Madera County Road Department. In the 1970s he owned the local Radio Shack franchise.

In 1975 he met his wife, Tami Jo Nix, nee Hill. They were married the day after Thanksgiving in 1979. Fred insisted on celebrating the day after Thanksgiving every year so as not to be one of those husbands to forget his wedding anniversary.

After selling the Radio Shack franchise he went to work in the engineering department of the Madera Irrigation District, a position he held for 27 years. He completed his career as an assistant engineer for the Madera County Resource Management Agency.

In his younger years, he and Tami Jo enjoyed riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles and he served as Road Captain in the Tribes Motorcycle Club. He collected Lionel Trains and was a member of the Toy Train Operating Society. He co-founded and served as president of the Central California Division of the TTOS.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Tami Jo Nix.

Due to his great aversion to funerals, no service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Jay Chapel of Madera. Remembrances can be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
