Fresno State Women's Golf Cards Strong Final Round to Finish Third at Aggie Invitational

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Fresno State women's golf team fired a strong final round of the Aggie Invitational, hosted by New Mexico State, at the NMSU Golf Course on Wednesday. The Bulldogs made a leap in the leaderboard to finish the tournament in third place with a 26-over-par 890 (297-302-291).

As a team, the Bulldogs were just one stroke behind the third round leader, Cal Baptist. Fresno State fired a 291 in its final round for its best score of the tournament, which proved to be enough to move the team up two slots in the leaderboard.

"I am really proud of these ladies for their fight and strong finish today," said head coach Emily Loftin. "Even though we fell a little bit short of our goal of finishing in the second place position we did have some strong finishes."

Sophomore Brigitte Thibault saw her best day at the NMSU Golf Course, and in her Bulldog career, on Wednesday as she fired a single round career-best 5-under-par 67 in the third round to finish the tournament tied for 10th place. The sophomore's score in round three was the lowest in a single round through the entire tournament.

"We had some great finishes certainly led by Brigitte and her personal-best 5-under. It is great to see her come out with a really strong round to finish the event and move herself up into a top 10 finish," said Loftin.

Freshman Jessica Hall remained steady in her performance in round three, carding a 2-over-par 74. Hall finished the tournament tied for 13th with an overall score of 221 (72-75-74) for her second consecutive top 15 finish.

"It is exciting to see Jess get herself another top 15 finish. She is definitely gaining a lot of experience and momentum and I am looking forward to seeing her finish out the rest of the fall season while building on this momentum," added Loftin.

Redshirt junior Kristin Simonsen shot a 5-over-par 77 in the final round for an overall 10-over-par 226 (74-75-77) to finish the event tied for 27th.

Senior Kelsi Stieler finished the tournament tied for 37th after firing a third round 6-over-par 78. Stieler carded an overall 13-over-par 229 (77-74-78) through three rounds.

Freshman Harriet Lynch gained some momentum on the course today as she fired a 1-over-par 73 third round in her best performance of the tournament. Lynch finished the tournament tied for 53rd with a 17-over-par 233 overall score (76-84-73).

UP NEXT: Fresno State will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada for the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, hosted by UNLV, on Oct. 21-23 in its fourth and final tournament of the fall.
