FRESNO – Head coach Jeff Tedford and the Fresno State football team will host a public scrimmage on August 19. It begins with a meet-and-greet with the team, 5-6 p.m., and an open scrimmage starting at 7 p.m., all inside Bulldog Stadium.

“I can’t wait to meet our loyal supporters and introduce them to this year’s team on Saturday, “said Tedford. “Please come out and interact with the players, say hello and shake some hands. Our players and staff have been working very hard the past few weeks and will appreciate your support as we get ready to kick off the season.”

LAS VEGAS - The Fresno Grizzlies (69-55) fell to the Las Vegas 51s (48-76) in yet another one-run game in this four-game series. With the 4-3 loss, the Grizzlies are now 12-4 in Mike Hauschild's starts this season and 16-11 in one-run games. With a Reno Aces win on Wednesday night, Fresno has fallen one game back in the PCL Pacific North Division.

The Grizzlies took an initial 2-0 lead in the third. Colin Walsh (3-for-4) led off the inning with a base hit and scored on a Tyler White (2-for-4) RBI single. Then, an A.J. Reed sacrifice fly scored Rico Noel who reached base on a bunt single.

Madera Man Re-Enlists in Ceremony at Raiders Training Camp

NAPA - On Sunday, August 6, the Oakland Raiders invited U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Matt Martinez to re-enlist at Raiders Training Camp in Napa. Martinez, who was raised in Madera, Calif., requested his re-enlistment ceremony to continue his 18 years of service in the U.S. Navy take place in the end zone of the same field the Raiders are using for training camp in preparation for the 2017 NFL season.

Martinez entered military service in September 1999 and has completed multiple deployments aboard Navy aircraft carriers, including two deployments circling the globe. As an aviation electronics technician, he repaired, maintained and launched F/A-18 Super Hornet aircraft in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Now as a technical instructor, he trains the “Elite of the Fleet” in highly skilled aircraft repairs.

Fresno State to Retire Derek Carr’s Jersey at Bulldogs’ 2017 Home Opener

FRESNO – At Fresno State football’s home opener on September 2, the Bulldogs’ all-time leading passer, Derek Carr (2009-13), will be in attendance as the University is set to retire his No. 4 jersey during a halftime ceremony. It will be the seventh retired jersey in the 95-year history of the program.

Carr, entering his fourth season with the Oakland Raiders, will make his way back to the Valley following the team’s final preseason game on Aug. 31 in Oakland. Week one of the NFL regular season is September 10.
