Bulldogs Pick Up 16 All-MW Honors; Tedford Named MW Coach of the Year

FRESNO – Fresno State had 16 football student-athletes recognized with Mountain West postseason honors while head coach Jeff Tedford was named the Mountain West Coach of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning. Sixteen postseason selections are the most that Fresno State has received since joining the conference in 2012. Sophomore linebacker Jeffrey Allison was the lone Bulldog to get a first-team All-MW nod.

"Program-wide, what we've been fortunate to accomplish this year is a reflection on the coaches and the players," said Tedford. "Really, it's all about them. They did all the work and they're the ones playing between the lines. It's nice for the program. I think the people associated with this team, the staff and the players, can take a lot of pride in that because they're the ones who earned it."


Bulldogs McMaryion Named MW Offensive Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State junior quarterback Marcus McMaryion was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the league on Monday.
 
McMaryion signals the Bulldogs' fifth MW player of the week nod this season, but first of the offensive variety. The last Bulldog to claim an offensive player of the week award was Derek Carr on Nov. 25, 2013.

Bulldogs Top # 23 Boise State, 28-17, Preview of Next Weeks MW Championship Game?

FRESNO – Topping its first ranked opponent since 2004, Fresno State prevailed in a 28-17 win over No. 23 Boise State on Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium, bringing the Milk Can Trophy back to Fresno.  "To send the seniors up the ramp with a victory is great," said head coach Jeff Tedford after the win. "It's another game and we have one more to go. I cannot tell you how happy and gratified I am to see all of the hard work paying off for these guys and this coaching staff who have put so much into it. Boise State has a great football team, we have a lot of respect for them and now we have to go and do it one more time. We will have a lot of hard work going into this coming up week, but for tonight, we can enjoy this and our guys will feel good about themselves, especially the seniors. It is a great honor for them to leave the stadium today with a victory."
 
In front of 31,526 Red Wave supporters, the Bulldogs totaled 431 yards of offense, the most the 'Dogs have had against an FBS opponent this season, as junior quarterback Marcus McMayion passed for a career-high 332 yards completing 23 of his 36 passes while tossing two touchdowns.

Helmuth Earns Bulldogs’ Fourth MW Defensive Player of the Week Honor This Season

FRESNO – Fresno State junior linebacker George Helmuth was named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. It is his first career player of the week honor.  Helmuth is the third Bulldog to receive MW Defensive Player of the Week honors this season and it is the fourth award overall. Juju Jughes (Oct. 9) and Jeffrey Allison (Oct. 23/Nov. 6) earned the league's weekly honor earlier this season. With four Bulldogs receiving MW Defensive Player of the Week awards, Fresno State has received the most MW weekly defensive honors in one season since 2012.
 
The Valley native played a crucial role in Fresno State's 13-7 win at Wyoming this past Saturday that guaranteed the Bulldogs a date with Boise State in the Mountain West championship game on Dec. 2. The junior led Fresno State with a career-high 11 tackles (seven solo) and recovered a critical fumble for one of the two turnovers the defense gained in the win.

Fresno State Football: ‘Dogs Capture West Division Crown in Laramie

LARAMIE, Wyo. â€“ Earmarked as a game that would be a defensive battle, it lived up to the hype as Fresno State outlasted Wyoming 13-7 on a sub-freezing day at War Memorial Stadium on Saturday.  With the win, Fresno State (8-3, 6-1 MW) captured its third West Division title in the last five seasons. The win also guaranteed the Bulldogs a date with Boise State in the Mountain West championship game on Dec. 2. The host site is still to be determined.
 
"I can't be prouder of this team," said head coach Jeff Tedford. "And I can't be happier for them. The turnaround that they've made, the belief and confidence, the hard work they've put in, the coaching staff has done a phenomenal job. It's a great feeling when all the hard work pays off."

Tedford Named Collegiate Coach of the Year Semifinalist

PHILADELPHIA – Fresno State head coach Jeff Tedford was named a 2017 semifinalist for the George Munger College Coach of the Year Award on Thursday, which is presented yearly by the Maxwell Football Club. The list includes a field of 16 candidates for the award who have been selected by the MFC National Selection Committee.
 
In Tedford's first year leading his alma mater, the Bulldogs (7-3, 5-1 MW) own the nation's best win improvement (+6) and are seeking a berth into the Mountain West Championship game this Saturday with a win at Wyoming. If Fresno State wins, it will tie the program record for win improvement set in 1929, and will claim their first MW West Division title since 2014.

Bulldog Wrestling Makes Exciting Return to the Valley in Front of the Third-largest Crowd in Program History

FRESNO - In front of the third-largest crowd in program history, Fresno State Wrestling made its return to the Valley on Friday night in front of 6,840 fans at the Save Mart Center as the Bulldogs fell 33-10 to No. 14 Illinois. "It is a start. I talked to the team before the match and I told them I wanted to see hustle, effort and fight. I thought that I saw that for the most part," said head coach Troy Steiner.

Starting off the night at 125 pounds, the Fighting Illini got on the scoreboard quickly with a pin by sophomore Travis Piotrowski in 1:04 of the 'Dogs Sean Williams to take a quick 6-0 lead in the dual.
